How the passport index is calculated

Each passport is scored by counting the destinations its holder can enter without a visa obtained beforehand: visa-free entry, a visa on arrival, and an electronic travel authority all count. Destinations that need a visa before travel, including e-visas applied for online, do not. The passports are then ranked by that score, and passports with equal scores share a rank, which is why 199 passports fill fewer than 199 positions.

This index follows the Henley Passport Index, which scores 199 passports against 227 travel destinations. Use the interactive index above to filter by region, compare any two passports side by side, or see which passports open Schengen, the US and the UK.

How to get a stronger second passport

Citizenship by investment programmes grant citizenship, and with it a passport, in return for an approved investment or government contribution. These are the passports from the programmes we advise on, ranked, with how many more destinations each opens than the 29 open to a Pakistani passport:

Second passports by investment, ranked
ProgrammePassport rankVisa-free destinations
Argentina citizenship by investment 16th 169 +140
St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship by investment 22nd 157 +128
Antigua and Barbuda citizenship by investment 24th 154 +125
Grenada citizenship by investment 27th 148 +119
Dominica citizenship by investment 30th 144 +115
St. Lucia citizenship by investment 31st 143 +114
Turkey citizenship by investment 51st 112 +83
Nauru citizenship by investment 62nd 83 +54

Each programme has its own investment options, family rules and processing times, and whether you can keep your current citizenship depends on the laws of both countries. Compare citizenship by investment programmes or talk to an advisor about which second passport fits you.
