As per the Organic Law 1/2025 published on 3rd January 2025 in the Official State Gazette of Spain known as BOE, Spain Golden Visa has been terminated. The law states that the termination will be enforced, three months after its publication in the Official State Gazette BOE. But there’s a catch, the Golden Visa termination date set in this law is 3rd April 2025 and that allows people to still get Spain residency by investment.
The Law 14/2013 is the legal framework that authorized the Golden Visa Program in Spain. The King of Spain Felipe VI has signed the legislation that repels the Article 63 via 67 from the Golden Visa Law 14/2013.
Protection to Existing Golden Visa Applicants
The BOE Gazette text protects the existing Golden Visa applicants along with their family members. it means investors and their qualified family members who complete the Golden Visa application may qualify for Spain residency as per law.
Existing Golden Visa investors are also protected by law as the BOE ensures that visas and authorizations for investors via real estate acquisitions are valid till the end of transition period.
The voices to end the Golden Visa of Spain dates back to April 2024 when Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez started the closure process. The Popular Party (PP) of Spain’s Senate halted the closure of program in December via a veto but Congress overrode the opposition via 177 members majority vote against 170 votes.
